Escaping the 9AM-5PM routine
Most of world’s employees who work random jobs to make a living will reach a point in their lives called the harsh realization. The harsh realization is the moment when you realize that your current job has got no meaning apart from the fact that it gives you the pay check on a monthly basis – your existence in turn is wasted for it is not contributing to the world and society at large as it’s meant to.
The harder and longer you think the more you’re convinced that the world is not really a better place because you’re here or the company you work. None of what you do on daily basis make any sense whatsoever in the larger scheme of things. You work for the money to make a living and more often than not to keep up with the Joneses, in the process buy the staff you don’t really need.
To make matters worse, the retirement age world over is being extended to a late adulthood which coupled with cut through competition and longer work hours, lead to a long and stressful working career, perhaps a never ending one. But does it really have to be all that bad? The answer is a resounding no!
On the back of realization that all that you’ve done thus far was a mere money chasing without much deliberate thought about anything else, start immediately to take a bigger view of yourself and your purpose here on earth. Work on getting to know yourself and your innate talents and abilities, learned skills and qualities. While getting to know oneself is a lengthy and often difficult process, it is nevertheless very rewarding in the end.
Once you’ve gotten to know yourself and your strengths i.e., talents, abilities, learned skills and qualities, you must work on honing them so that you too can use them to serve the mankind in exchange for a fulfilled and rewarding life – a purpose driven life, indeed. While there’s no limit as to what services you can offer to the mankind, almost all of them are born in entrepreneurship of sort, for very seldom can anyone pursue their purpose as an employee of some random organization.
However, considering that entrepreneurship means dealing with uncertainties on a daily basis, shifting from an individual who’s spent years and in some cases decades ‘playing it safe’ and working for an organization as an employee to an entrepreneur is an arduous journey, if at all possible. Nonetheless, you must try to find an interest outside your current job and start doing it while still employed.
What better and easier way to do just that than freelancing? Freelancing is one way to find the outside interest and get your mind off of the corporate world. To start with, select a freelancing platform that best suits your needs i.e., Parttimerz, PeoplePerHour, TaskRabbit etc. complete your profile along with relevant services you’d like to offer and adequate hourly rate for each. Thereafter simply make a habit of checking in on a weekly basis and looking for part-time jobs and freelancing gigs that are right for you. If you prevail, before long you’ll be doing so well as a freelancer that you’ll no longer need to remain employed and will get out of the 9AM-5PM routine.
