Defining success
Success is a phenomenon that does not have a clear and definitive definition for it could mean many things to different people. Hence, the answer to the question whether someone is successful or not is vague at best. Do you consider yourself successful? Yes, you’re the only one who can answer that truthfully.
Given that in our world a success is usually associated with money, fame and power, one would think that many people worldwide are missing out on success. But does the money, fame and power truly constitute success? Hell no! It does not – nothing can be further from the truth.
Many so-called successful high-profile celebrities, athletes and business people lead empty and sad lives, so sad in fact that many seek comfort and fulfilment in alcohol and drug abuse. On the other side of spectrum live so-called ordinary people of modest incomes, no fame or power, yet many of them lead a very happy and fulfilled lives.
So what is a true meaning of success? Well, success can be thought of as a fulfilment of one’s desire or achievement of one’s dream. In other words, if a person’s dream is a happy marriage and healthy kids, that person is considered successful once he/she fulfill that achieve that dream. Likewise, if a person’s desire is to travel the world, that person is considered successful once he/she achieves that desire.
There you have it – success has got nothing to do with one’s net worth or a stature in a society but rather the alignment of their dreams and desires with their state of being.
