The Importance of Self Discovery
While all of us are born into this world well-equipped to fulfill our mission hereon earth, great majority never achieve their full potential. Sure, many go on to become professional athletes, doctors, engineers, entertainers, politicians etc. but do they really achieve their full potential and fulfill their mission here on earth? So what really happens and why doesn’t individual who becomes a doctor or a politician achieve their full potential?
Let’s see. When the child is born into this world, it is nurtured and cared for by her parents who want nothing but the best for her. Depending on child’s parents backgrounds, beliefs, values, experiences, perceptions, IQ etc. they will rear their child accordingly. In addition to parents influence on child’s development, immediate surrounding i.e., society, friends and relatives play a big part in molding the child’s reality.
At first glance, there’s really nothing wrong with the foregoing but if we examine closer, we’ll see that parents – more often than not – teach their children everything they believe to be right, whether or not that’s truly the case. So, if parents are uninitiated and unaware of the very purpose of life, they’ll most likely stir their child off the life’s mission fulfilling path, disregarding child’s innate talents and abilities all together.
So, in the case of law-abiding parents who spend most – if not whole of their – lives working in the government jobs ‘playing it safe’, they will most likely discourage their children from exploring, self-discovery, risk taking and working at privately held companies. By the same token, if the parents are of entrepreneurial nature, they’ll mold their children to become self-reliant, risk takers, overthrow the status quo and push the boundaries.
Fundamentally, there’s nothing unusual about either approach, in fact it’s rather natural which is why people live both ways. The question is do such people excel at what they do and can they ever achieve the pinnacle of success in their chosen field or life? This is something to ponder over for the answer may lie there in.
If we look at the highest achievers in history of mankind across different fields of interests Michelangelo, Ludwig van Beethoven, Nikola Tesla, William Shakespeare, Albert Einstein, Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan etc. we’ll clearly see they all have one thing in common and that’s they’ve all discovered their true calling and purpose in life – they have detected their innate talents and abilities, which they honed throughout their lives and eventually excelled at what they do, they became better than anyone who came before them.
They did not necessarily fall under the influence of their parents, society, friends and relatives but rather rebelled against it in their own way and pursue their individual passion. Only by doing so, can a child grow to achieve its full potential and fulfill its mission here on earth. Think about it, don’t force your children to follow in your footsteps or go into career which seems to be very lucrative at the given time but rather help them detect their innate talents and abilities and give them wings – let them serve the mankind with it and lead utmost fulfilling and rewarding lives.
